Getting here
Parking
Metered street parking runs right along Cherry Street, with a public lot a block off. It’s a walkable, browse-a-few-shops kind of block.
Bring the dog
Commune is dog-friendly, and there’s a resident Boston Terrier who runs the floor. Well-behaved pups always welcome.
The shop & the curator
A little sea light on Cherry Street
“Inspired by Mediterranean summers. For the romantics.”
Commune grew out of a love of travel and the feel of the Mediterranean, whitewashed buildings and sun-drenched alleyways brought home to Grand Rapids. It recently moved into a larger Cherry Street space that press calls even more inviting and inspiring than before.
After several years on Cherry Street, it’s owned and hand-gathered by Megan Modderman, who fills the shelves with plant-forward, warmly layered pieces and changes the mix most weeks. Reviewers keep landing on the same word for it: “beautifully curated.”
